Leah's Big Girl Room

I spent the long weekend in Austin celebrating a very special wedding with friends and making changes to Leah's big girl room.

We made small changes to the room which made a big impact to the overall feel and flow of the space.  The room needs a few finishing touches, but all in all it's about 95% complete.

I had a great time working on this project for my very special niece!  Leah had some 'issues' with the changes at first -- who knew she was resistant to change?!  However, by the end she was very happy and proud to show off her new 'big girl' room.  Lots of pink was her one request - mission accomplished!

Shot of the completed space.  The chair and ottoman to the left were brought in from another room in the house to replace the glider. The rug was a Big Lots find.

We "shopped the house" and found the white house and tray from other rooms.  The frames are all from TJ Maxx,

Pottery Barn Kids Picture.  The inspiration for the room's color story...white, pink, turquoise with pops of yellow.

Styled Bookcase.  The brass giraffe and silver piggy bank were Houston thrift store finds.  We brought in the elephant teapots from the hutch in the dining room.  The yellow cup and dish are from West Elm.

I scored this Serena & Lily fabric on super sale!  Regularly $50/yard - I paid $6.  Curtain panels and accent pillows to come :)

Gotta love the Expedit in high gloss white

Silver round mirror to be added above the dresser.  The new white knobs are from Hobby Lobby and help feminize the dark wood dresser.

Wicker baskets from Target - A must have for corralling toys!

Picture Board.  The paper mache letters are Christmas ornaments from Anthropologie found on clearance.  LMB ... Leah's initials.

Wood mirror to be hung over the dresser.  The mercury glass lamp and orb are from TJ Maxx.  I love how mercury glass reflects light and adds some sparkle to the space.

This changing table made dresser was relocated from the opposite side of the room to make space for the Expedit bookcase.  It's placement to the right of the toddler bed adds visual weight and symmetry, balancing out the corner bookcase to the left of the bed.

Katie also ordered a black and white print of the picture below from this amazing website.  We had it mounted to foam core board at Hobby Lobby.  Total cost for the project was under $15!  Such a sweet addition to the room!

Katie is also going to make a DIY a bulletin board similar to the one below.

Here's hoping LeLe enjoys her new space for years to come!!

Marshalls Monday

Happy Monday!

I've been busy lately with work travel, new design projects and on-line dating madness.
As it turns out, mentioning my passion for interior design on-line has led to some good project leads!!

Also in the works, helping my brother in law decorate his new office space.  Pinterest has helped a bunch with this.  Check out my board here.

Wanted to share some of my favorite Marshall's/Home Goods finds from the last few weeks.  I was seriously loving that rug - but had to say no :(

BaubleBar

Hi Everyone.  It's a rainy cool Saturday here in Houston and I'm enjoying a relaxing day at home!  This month promises to be a busy one, so I'm enjoying some down time while I can.

How's your weekend going?

Has anyone heard of BaubleBar?  I tell you, reading blogs has clued me into so many fabulous sites, this one being one of them...financially dangerous and wonderful all at the same time!

Danielle has posted about the site before, but when I saw this post (SALE!) I knew I had to check it out.  Here's what I ended up with....the package was delivered yesterday and I'm loving my new statement necklaces.

So whatcha waitin' for...get your bauble on!  They have a referral program so if you do make a purchase (hint hint), please enter my invitation code:  35830

By the way, make sure and check out Danielle's Blog.  It's one of my favorite reads, oh and she's the one responsible for my beautiful blue and coral blog design.  Not sure which I love more, her posts or the adorable pictures of her rescue pup, Buddy.

Have a great weekend,

Update -- January Goals

Hard to believe it'll be February in the blink of an eye...
    • Get an iPhone. Done!! Loving it...and it's new case.  the iPhone is AMAZING!!!
    • Start 10 in 21 - a diet and workout program which promises to melt 10 pounds off of you in 21 days, or 3 weeks. Let's do this!!   On my way - I was 8 lbs down but fell off the wagon this weekend...damn you brunch buffet!
    • New bedding for master bedroom - that's right, good bye to the bright orange. Check out my Craigslist ad. Separate blog post and pics to follow.  Complete - I'm loving the new color scheme.
    • Read Psycho-Cybernetics  In Process
    • Clean out my closet   Umm, yeah, not started
    • Order window valance for my office. In contact with Melissa regarding this.   Done - Just waiting on the valance to be delivered.
    • Start on-line dating - yes, there, I said it :)  Oh man, it's a jungle out there!  Wish me luck!
Speaking of goals, there were lots of wonderful posts I could relate to shared earlier this month on some of my favorite blogs.  I meant to share these a few weeks back, but well I forgot.

Here are two of my favorites for your motivational enjoyment.  Always comforting to know that others are focused on self improvement and living life to the fullest.

  • Michelle at Ten June talks about her commitment to making her life more "approachable."
  • Courtney at Courtney Out Loud shares his hopes, wishes and dreams for 2012.
  • The Nester's motto is "it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful."  Amazing.  Check out her Home Goals link party below.
